Agility trials before Nationals

Perhaps you would rather compete than sightsee the weekend before the National. There are two Agility Trials (AKC approval pending):

Gettysburg re-enactment on July 7th

The weekend before the National is a great time to be in Gettysburg, also. In addition to the National Civil War Battle Reenactment, "Confederates Take the Shriver House" is taking place Saturday July7th. Visitors have the opportunity to speak to Confederate soldiers as they prepare for battle at the only in town reinactment!

The host hotel reported yesterday that it has already received many reservations! Looks like the National will be a great chance to see friends old and new. If you haven't made your reservation yet, grab the rooms while they are still available. The DEADLINE for reserving one of the rooms in the BCOA blockat the lowered rate is June 5 (if rooms are still available).

Sunday at Nationals

Sunday brings Juniors and Best of Breed at the 2012 National. Definitely a morning not to be missed! Come out to support the Juniors and to see the top basenjis in the country.

Saturday at Nationals

Bitch classes begin in the morning on Saturday July 14th. Dr. Greg Acland's eye health seminar is in the afternoon. Then the banquet (The Eisenhower Deluxe Buffet featuring oven roasted chicken, carved top round of beef and pasta primavera) and Auction in the evening!

Friday at Nationals

Friday the 13th is going to be very exciting not scary at the 2012 National.

Dog class judging by Dr. John Reeve-Newson followed by General Membership Meeting in the afternoon and the Top 25 Competition in the evening! It's a day not to be missed.

THREE seminars at Nationals!

The National offers many learning opportunities for basenji breeders and owners alike.
~Tuesday July 10th we have Claudia Orlandi’s seminar “The ABC’s of Dog Breeding” sponsored by the BCOA Breeders Education Committee.
~Thursday July 12th we have “Managing Breeds for a Secure Future,” by Dr. Phillip Sponenberg, a professor of pathology and genetics at the Virginia/Maryland School of Veterinary Medicine.
~Saturday July 14th Dr Greg Acland, Professor of Medical Genetics at the Baker Institute at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, presents a seminar on the topic of Basenji eye health.

Thursday at Nationals

July 12th will be an exciting day at the National. Puppy and Veterans Sweeps in the morning. African Stock Exhibit in the afternoon. Get your youngsters, oldsters and African-decendents ready to strut their stuff.

Wednesday at Nationals

Wednesday July 11th is Lure Coursing day at the National! Coursing enthusiasts will be happy to hear that there will be both AKC and ASFA trials located at Hanover Shoe Farm in Littlestown, PA--only 20 miles away from the host hotel.

Tuesday at Nationals

Obedience and Rally will take place inside the ballroom on the first floor of the Eisenhower I.

In addition to the regular Obedience classes, the following optional titling classes are offered: Beginner Novice, Graduate Novice, Graduate Open and Versatility. Veterans is offered as a non-regular class.

Get your dogs ready for some fun in Rally, also! Rally Relay is being offered in addition to the regular Rally classes. Mrs. Nancy Withers will be judging both Obedience and Rally.

Monday at Nationals

 First event is Agility inside at the AllStar Center on the hotel complex grounds. The event will be on a turf field. Regular classes and FAST classes will be offered.

Worried you won't have time to eat at the National? Don't be. The Market Deli, conveniently located down the hallway from the ballroom, offers boxed lunches. Just order one before 9:00 AM for noon pick-up! Saw photos of the first place tile trophies for conformation--regular and non-regular classes. Wow, you will not be disappointed if you win or sponsor a conformation class. EACH has an individual customized design created by artist Kim Thornborrow. Cannot wait for everyone to see them at the show!
